The Massachusetts Child Support Guidelines are meant to apply in cases where combined gross income of both parties is less than $135,000 and where the gross income of the non-custodial parent is less than $100,000.
The Guidelines provide, in cases where there are more than 3 children to be considered for purposes of determining child support, that "the support shall be no less than that for 3 children; should a judge order support at the 3 child level, written findings shall describe the circumstances of the particular case which warrant the minimum order. Within the discretion of the court, and in consideration of the totality of the circumstances of the parties, the Basic Order may be either increased or decreased by 2%. An adjustment of 2% shall not be considered a deviation."
